photo Sengiku Bando
Sengiku Bando has studied Japanese Traditional Dance since her early childhood and inherited the name of "Sengiku"(fan, chrysanthemum), at the age of 15, in the School of Bando-Ryu, one of the most prestigious family-school of Japanese Traditional Dance. Sengiku has been performing traditional dance in countless occasions, at the same time, her interests in other forms of theatrical expressions led her to join in the contemporary performance. Already, in her early career, she had performed in "Roman Gekijo", a theatre troupe founded by Yukio Mishima, novelist-dramatist.

photo On 1999, her collaboration work with contemporary dancer Ryohei Kondo, which was based on a Bunraku (Japanese traditional marionette theatre) piece, "Yume no Yume" had a great success. Sengiku was invited to the "2000 Showcase of International Theatre" in Beijing, China, for the performance of "Yume no Yume". This piece has also been performed in Paris and Moscow, on 2003.
